Oral History Recording

Other information, anecdotes etc.

Eric Harvey:

Clive Sweetingham's account of the loo saga is the most accurate. Jack Temple (and Andy Allman, I think) and myself descended down into the loo pit -"we wuz there"! [16 April 2005]

Robert Bryant recalls:

I remember there was lots of snow. And the time the VLF hut went up in smoke - not that we missed the following weeks recording. The Russians came and we had caviar on sledging biscuit from then on, when off base. And the copper bolts in the magnetometer room turned out to be copper covered steel. the best bit was being lowered down the loo to chisel away the turds - someone had to help Andy Allman do it. There's more but no space. [21 December 2003]

Jack Temple says:

I remember Alan Tirapani's weeks of mysterious debilitating illness, and the sudden miraculous recovery, just as we were about to construct an operating table so Eric (doc) Harvey could carry out an emergency operation on him!
Also Steve (electrician) Norris. Always first up, geeing the rest of us up to be in for breakfast! Did any one ever discover where Steve disappeared to between breakfast and 10 o'clock tea break? [30 March 2006]
