The British Antarctic Survey Sledge Dog Memorial FundUpdate - December 2008Provisional timetable for the project was to convert the winning drawings initially to a small wax model by mid December 2008 to allow adjustment prior to going to full size in spring 2009. The first deadline has been achieved:- On 15th December 2008 Graham Wright and Hwfa Jones drove north to the Lake District where the sculptors (David Cemmic and Sebastian Wylder) displayed the small (6 inch high) wax model.
The model was absolutely excellent and much more realistic than can possibly be shown with 2D photographs. Indeed it was difficult to describe anything other than small corrections which will be acted upon over the next few weeks. Comments are requested by 2nd January to help the sculptors make any small changes to add to this model. After that period the model will go full size and from that final production the bronze casting will be made by 15th May 2009. Graham and Hwfa have already noted that:-
However please look at the images and send your observations to:-
Hwfa.jones@googlemail.com or Graham@forkliftattachements.co.uk Of interest you may like to look at the astonishingly high standard of work done by David who concentrates on the sculpture and Sebastian who makes the mouldings, on their website: www.cemmickandwylder.com Over the next few weeks we shall be looking at the drawings and form of the plaque by sculptor Denise Coch, which will include the names of all the dog teams and a simple inscription. Unveiling will be in June or July 2009 in Cambridge The fund is in good heart and the final amount payable for the works is now guaranteed, so the works can proceed swiftly to the unveiling in 2009 as in the initial timetable.
